St Columbans Mission Society in Australia is actively committed to fostering communities of safeguarding that recognise and uphold the dignity and rights of all, including children, young people and adults at risk. In this context, during September/October 2022, St Columbans Mission Society underwent a Safeguarding Audit conducted by the Australian Catholic Safeguarding Limited (ACSL).

In its Audit Report, ACSL stated, "Our assessment indicates that St Columbans Mission Society has fully implemented or has substantially progressed in the implementation of 67 (96%) indicators which are relevant to their operations."

In July 2023, Dr David Treanor from ACSL visited the Columban Mission Centre in Melbourne and presented Fr Peter O'Neill, St Columbans Mission Society Regional Director Oceania, with a National Catholic Safeguarding Standards Audit Certificate, recognising the achievements the Society has undertaken towards safeguarding.
