2026 Columban Christmas Appeal
“The Almighty will not be outdone in generosity to those who serve the people most in need.” Pope Leo XIV
Christmas reminds us of God’s greatest gift, the birth of Jesus, and invites us to share His hope and love with others. For many families in the communities where Columban missionaries live and work, Christmas can be a difficult time. Poverty and limited opportunities mean parents often struggle to provide even the basic necessities for their children.
Recently, I spoke with Columban priests who had returned to Fiji for leave from their mission in Pakistan. They shared stories of the families and communities they accompany, and how your financial support makes a practical difference, helping families put regular meals on the table and enabling children to attend school. This same spirit of mission is alive in the fifteen countries where Columbans serve. Through your generosity, our missionaries can walk alongside vulnerable communities, offering practical support, dignity and hope.
Stories from the mission
Fiji
Young People Caring for Creation

In Fiji, Columban Mission brings young people together to turn faith into action. Along Suva’s Nasese Foreshore, young volunteers joined Columban missionaries to remove plastic waste threatening precious mangroves and marine life. Afterwards, they gathered at the Columban Formation House to share a meal, reflect on Laudato Si’ and learn about caring for creation. Your Christmas gift helps Columbans continue inspiring communities to protect biodiversity, support vulnerable people and build hope for our common home.
Chile
Bringing Warmth and Hope in Chile

In northern Chile, extraordinary rainfall flooded roads, damaged homes and churches, leaving vulnerable people exposed to the cold. When Columban Fr Martin Koroiciri learned that people were sleeping on the streets during the heavy rain, he responded immediately. He brought blankets, hot soup and coffee, offering not only warmth but companionship and care. Fr Martin stayed with them, listening to their stories and praying together, before helping them find a warm place to sleep. Through your generous support this Christmas, Columban missionaries can continue responding when vulnerable people need them most, bringing practical help, dignity, compassion and hope.
Pakistan
Healing with Care in Pakistan

In Badin, Pakistan, the Columban-supported Tuberculosis clinic provides vital care to people experiencing illness and hardship, regardless of their faith or background. Hindus, Muslims and Christians are welcomed with dignity, compassion and respect. Dr Zakir Hussein, a Shia Muslim, has served at the Catholic clinic for nearly 21 years, caring faithfully for those in need. For Columban Fr Elbert Balbastro, the clinic is more than a place of treatment - it is where healing, trust and peace grow together. Your Christmas gift helps Columban Mission continue caring for vulnerable people and bringing hope to communities in need.
Australia
Planting Hope, Caring for Creation

In Melbourne, Columbans are putting faith into action through biodiversity protection and restoration. Columban lay missionary Sai Tamatawale has already helped plant almost 900 native trees in regional Victoria, alongside Tree Project volunteers. Columban Fr Kelvin Barrett and co-worker Adi Mariana Waqa are also supporting this growing initiative. With your support this Christmas, we hope to expand this mission by nurturing native seedlings at the Columban Mission Centre and helping restore habitats across Victoria, planting hope today for a healthier common home tomorrow.

In Taiwan, Columban lay missionary Jao Resari reflects on water as a precious gift from God, sustaining all life and connecting us with one another and creation. Through her ministry and art, Jao reminds us that God’s love reaches even into places of darkness and uncertainty, bringing hope and healing. Your generosity enables Columban missionaries like Jao to continue sharing this message of faith, care and hope with the communities they accompany.
Your generosity to this Christmas Appeal will help to sustain these mission efforts in the fifteen countries where we serve. To donate to the 2026 Columban Christmas Appeal, please use the options below.
