Fiji

(left) Fr Francis Hoare SSC was ordained in 1973 and has been a Columban missionary in Fiji, Australia and the United States. He is the current Vice Director of Fiji.

In the region of Fiji we are a group of Columban Fathers and Lay Missionaries (originating from Fiji and the Phiippines) and one Burmese priest who has generously offered 6-years of mission work with Columban Missionaries. We also host three seminarians from Fiji, Rotuma and Rabi.

Columbans in Fiji are involved in the following ministries:

  • Parish Ministry (Parishes of Ba, Raiwaqa and Labasa).
  • Formation Programs for Priesthood and Lay Mission.
  • Promotion of Mission in the local church.
  • Promotion of Vocations to the Columban Priesthood, Lay Missionary life and Youth Ministry.
  • Working for Justice, Peace & the Integrity of Creation (JPIC) with the diocese and civic society groups.
  • Archdiocesan Office for translating the Bible and liturgical texts into Fijian (Vosa).
  • Hospital Ministry and Outreach to the Korean and Rabi-Kiribati linguistic groups.
  • Members of Pacific Regional Seminary.
