Editorial - Like old friends

Last month I used the comments of a reader for an editorial. I am doing it again this month because her insight was one of those ‘Yes, I have had those thoughts but I couldn't put them into words.'

A reader wrote, " ... those who take their time to write about their lives, they become old friends." Some of our writers (no names mentioned) are old friends to me too. I look forward to hearing from them.

New stories and photographs are the lifeblood of the magazine. A constant writer is a blessing but more than a blessing, an essential member of our missionary organisation.

I don't have to find articles from other sources on mission to ‘fill' the magazine. I don't have to go back into history and resurrect memories of the past, although I believe there is a place for our mission history. The stories in The Far East are about recent events in the countries in which we work.

Our missionary activity is diverse. I try to represent all the countries in which we work equally. It doesn't happen because I don't get enough articles from them. Am I complaining? Well, only a little bit because I do believe that writers are born and not made.

Some Columbans will never write a story; others communicate what is in their minds and hearts about their lives and mission. We are grateful to those who write, thank you.
