JPIC Name - JPIC stands for Justice, Peace and the Integrity of Creation so that name itself witnesses to their connection. We cannot properly work for justice, peace and care for Earth without caring for all three. The JPIC name is used across the Christian religious through the World Council of Churches (WCC). The name is rooted in Catholic Tradition and Scripture, and consistent with the modern social teaching and advocacy role of the churches.
Motivation - The missionary experience of Columban personel working around the world has convinced them that care for both people and earth are integral to preaching the gospel. The Columban Society 1992 Constitutions state:
The Columbans proclaim and witness to the Good News in Jesus Christ of the full Christian liberation and reconciliation of all peoples ... dialogue from the standpoint of solidarity with the poor ... respect for life in all its forms within the context of the integrity of creation (C.101, 103 and 108)
Campaigns - The Columban Society world wide has identified priority social issues and local Columban JPIC offices organise campaigns on these issues relevant to Australia. These campaigns are listed in the sidebar.
Networks - The Columban JPIC Office in Australia (JPICoz) links with the Columban central office and local offices in each of the 15 Countries where our missionaries work: Columbans around the World Locally, JPICoz cooperates with the Columban PEJ and CMC and networks with NGOs on particular campaigns.
